Baybay & Baybee: Week 42 (5/23-5/29)

42 weeks old!

This was an all-around nice week. The weather was warm, yet not too hot, the girls slept well (including their first time sleeping ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT together on Tuesday!) and we got a lot of things accomplished.

Wisteria blooming in the yard!

Ella swings!

Maya swings!

Last post I had a video of Maya and the mirror. This week it's Ella's turn.

I spent a few days in Springfield this week, doing showings at our house and getting the apartments ready to rent to new tenants. This put me away from home and the babies for longer chunks of time than we were all used to. The girls did great and Brett did a super job of taking care of them on his own. Even though I was working, I enjoyed the time away from everyone. Five hours was my limit, though. Longer than that and I started to miss my family too much.

Ella's sleepy "please push me around in this box" face.

We had a super fun visit from our friends Sarabeth, Jeff, Ben and Jem! The last time we saw them was in 2010 when we were biking across the country! They stayed overnight in our guest room and the adults even got a chance to chat for a while after the kids when to sleep. (A huge Congratulations and welcome to the newest member of their family, a little girl who was not yet born when they visited!!)

Ben and Jem meet Ella and Maya!

The boys build block towers for the girls to knock down.

Ben: the incredible tree-shimmier-upper! We all went for a walk (some of us biked) around Northampton together the next morning.

Ella is quickly gaining more confidence at standing up while holding onto furniture. It's fun to see her become stronger and less wobbly every day. While Ella practices her standing skills, Maya's newest thing is to bite while we're nursing! She hasn't bitten me hard, but she is definitely testing to see what will happen if she does. She will pause, looks up at me, clenches her teeth, and then smirk! I have been immediately stopping nursing and setting her down while saying, "No biting!" as calmly as I can after having just been bitten with sharp pointy dagger teeth. Usually we will nurse again in a few minutes and she won't bite again for a while. Ugh. I hope this is a short phase.

On a happier and sweeter note, Ella is giving kisses a lot (sometimes on her own!) and Maya will occasionally give them as well, though mostly to Brett. Some current favorite games are "Tasty Toes" where we all pretend to eat each other's toes, and "Hey! My pacifier!" where Maya or Ella will offer her pacifier and at the last minute before it's taken, stuff if back in her mouth. Hours of fun.

As an anniversary present, Brett's parents, Guy, and Selena all chipped in and got us a Miele vacuum cleaner! This is something that I always coveted (after cleaning other people's houses for years with this awesome vacuum) but never really imagined that I would own. I have already vacuumed the whole house twice. It is amazing. Crumbs on the floor -- your reign has ended.

Maya shows off her spiffy new FuzziBunz cloth diaper and her teeth brushing skills. We went tag saleing on Saturday and found these diapers for an amazing deal -- under a dollar apiece!! We've been using them at night instead of disposables and they have been working great! Our only regret is not buying all of the ones that the people were selling.

That's how it's done!

We went swimming in the river for the first time this year!

Both babies LOVED the water! Maya took longer to warm up to going all the way in, while Ella practically dove into the water.

Post swim and cozy stroller ride home.

Baybay & Baybee: Week 41

41 weeks old!

I put a mirror in the living room and it was a HUGE hit this week. Maya, especially, is in love with her reflection.

Who is that cute baby in the mirror?

Ella has learned how to give kisses! When I ask her, "May I have a kiss?" she will lean in, open her mouth and give me a big wet smooch on my lips! It's adorable. Maya has given a few kisses also, but often just ignores my requests. Another fun little thing that Ella does sometimes, is give me her pacifier. When I ask for it, she takes it out of her mouth and offers it up to me. Sometimes she will just do this on her own without my asking. Almost always though, when I go to take it, she quickly pulls it away and puts the pacifier back in her mouth. She thinks this is hilarious.

"Look, Mama! I'm brushing my teeth!"

We have been eating a lot of watermelon. The girls like it almost as much as I do. I can't wait until it's watermelon season around here! I have a feeling that we will go through a lot of fruit this summer.

Eating lunch.

Watermelon attack!

Guy got our grill hooked up/working this week AND came over to grill food for us a bunch of times! Evan and Merry also cooked us a delicious dinner one evening. It's so nice to have food made for us. Sometimes (okay, most of the time) we get to the end of the day and we are exhausted. It's so helpful to not have to think about what's for dinner after a long day! Such a treat.

Over the weekend, we had a little tag sale. We just put a few things out, and didn't sell much. But, we did buy an awesome bike trailer that Guy found at another tag sale! So far we have only tried it once, for a very short ride. The girls weren't happy, mostly because of the helmets. We will try again another day.

We got some garden work done while the girls hung out in their swings. Brett did some trimming, while I pulled some weeds.

Maya's cute smirk.

Playing happily together.

We were all hanging out in the living room one afternoon when Maya decided to try standing up all by herself...

...she pushed up on the toy bucket...

...and stood for 13 seconds while flapping her arms and laughing! She was so proud!

Bath tub fun!

Baybay & Baybee: Week 40

40 weeks old!

As you may be able to tell in the above picture, we spent some time rearranging our living room this week. We moved the couch that had been sitting mostly unused in the guest room, back into the living room (which was not as easy as it sounds -- it got stuck in the doorway and we had to removed trim pieces to get it out), and moved the desk and computer into the guest room. Now Brett has a more separate office space, and we all have a better place to sit and play in the living room!

A better view of our new room. The table is still over to the right and the shelf of baby toys is next to the couch, just out of the picture. We are very happy with our new set up!

On the 16th of May, Brett and I celebrated three years of marriage. Many things in our lives have changed since we got married, but I still feel lucky to be married to such a wonderful partner and my best friend. I am so glad that I get to spend each day with you, Brett!

One of the things we did on our anniversary was to go out to eat at Paul & Elizabeth's. It was the first time eating at a restaurant with babies who wanted to share our food! They enjoyed eating pieces of what we ordered, and dropping a lot of it on the floor. Kathy and Jim also joined us for lunch! They didn't drop any food on the floor.

Our house has been filled with such happy babbling recently. Most days, our living room sounds like a chorus of "Ba, ba, ba, babb!" I love hearing Maya and Ella practice sounds and experiment with language.

Eating their toys.

Happy Maya!

"Ah! ba ba ba!"

Ella adores being pushed around in the laundry basket. We pretend it's a boat, or a car, and I make lots of "rhmm, rhmm", and "beep, beep", noises.

Maya prefers to practice standing on the laundry basket. Sometimes, she helps me push Ella around.

The babies' nine month check-up happened this week, so we walked up to town to the doctor's office. There were no shots for the girls this time! They just got their ears checked, weight and height taken, and were given two new books to bring home! Maya weighed 17.6 pounds, and Ella weighed 16.7 pounds.

Ella uses the potty before getting weighed at the doctor's office.

This week was rough at times, mostly because Brett and I were tired and we didn't prioritize time for ourselves as well as we could have. At one point during the week, we talked about how often it feels like all we're doing with our lives is taking care of Maya and Ella. At least we're really good at it! We are going to try to make sure that next week we each get a bit more time for ourselves.

There were a lot of good moments with friends this week, and we were excited to give the girls their first tase of peanut butter! They enjoyed it and haven't had any negative reaction to it. Yay!

On Saturday, I met up with Benita and Kelly (the two other moms of twins) for ice cream and just to chat for a while. Brett and Chris took the girls for a walk and played outside while we talked. This is a picture of Olivia, Evelyn and Ella playing together. Maya wasn't very happy at this moment, so she was hugging Brett.

Selena and Maya. We all look forward to Selena's visits. We love her.

Tickle, tickle, tickle!

Uncle Guy and Maya. Guy came over and cooked us dinner a couple times this week!

Reading stories together.

"You head for the games, I'll go for the shoes, they won't be able to catch us both!"

"Look at all these games!! Which one should we play?"

Serious Ella.

Reading stories on the potty.

For Mother's day, I got the best gift: A good night's sleep! Ella slept ALL night, and Maya woke only twice, both times going back to sleep quickly with a little help. Thanks girls!

I've been feeling like our babies are turning into such big kids so quickly, but when I look at this picture of Ella napping, I am reminded that she's still my little baby.

And last, but certainly not least, we ordered bike helmets for the twins and they arrived this week! They had fun trying on and playing with their new helmets for a few minutes, but boy was the packing material exciting!
